Shorter and cheaper contract... easier to buyout, cap hit just over 3 if buried in the AHL

Neal had least has some semblance of a two-way game. Alzner is as bad a liability as Jack Johnson.

Despite his 40 goal season with the Pens, I've never been a big fan of Neal. He's got an OK two-way game, but is a HUGELY inconsistent when it comes to scoring. He basically loads up in one half the season then goes night-night.

That being said, unless a buyout is an option which is probably a really bad option, you guys are probably better off riding out one more season to see if he bounces back. If he does, at least you have a better shot of moving him if you need to free up space.

That's why I mentioned a buyout, Alzner obviously isn't gonna be playing on Calgary's top 4

Hugely inconsistent when it comes to goal scoring? The guy has seven seasons of scoring 20 + goals... I would call that pretty consistent. I actually wouldn't mind the wild taking a chance on him. We need gritty goal scorers and Neal mixes it up with the best of them.

You obviously didn't read what I said. If you look back at Neal's production, he really loads up in one part of the season, then is invisible. While all players go through dry spells, his are REALLY bad. He scores far too much in bunches.

That is the MO of any number of goal scorers. Its rare to have a mathews or Ovechkin that scores almost on a nightly basis. Didn't Johnny G go through a long funk this season?

Might as well keep Neal if Eriksson is the player coming back. Now, a Neal/Turris swap makes more sense.

None of the options mentioned in the blog make any sense.
IMO we have 2 options:
1) attach a high pick or a roster player to Neil and dump him.
2) swallow hard and pray this year was an anomaly.

Haha man it sounds like just changing dirty underwear. Out of the 3, I like Lucic's toughness but hate the NMC attached to him which means he would have to be protected for the upcoming expansion draft. Last time we got away real light but this next one we aint going to be so lucky. Probably rather have Neal over Okposo just because they are basically the same player & Neal is $250K cheaper & doesnt have any NT or NM clauses.

I think Neal is moveable just need the right teams. Minny might be a good target but we may have to add as they dont have much of a cap dump besides Rask & not sure he would be better. I think we may have to bribe someone to take him & like anything, is the price worth it.

No way NSH would give up Turris for Neal. That would be so dumb

Could you kill him?

Neil 4 x 5.75 mm straight up for Rask 3 x 4 mm.

Would you have done that deal at the start of last year? I think Neal has a chance to get back to being a 20 goal scorer if he's truthful about the training he is planning to do. But I still think there are maybe better options & maybe we can take on a bad contract with need instead of just trying to find a little extra cap space. I wouldnt be so quick to do that deal1 for 1 for Rask.

I would not have done that deal last year but a year later I would and I think BT would too.

Hopefully, the Wild GM paid as much attention to Neal last year as you did. He didn't score goals or mix it up with anyone last year.

One season. Zuckers numbers also declined across the board. I would rather take a bet on a guy who isn't being utilized properly and has proven year after year that he can get it done. He's not a 3rd line role playing type. He'd be a top 6 winger in Minny and would at least get the ice time to see if he can rebound.
